Jamie Carragher’s response when asked if Liverpool should drop Loris Karius
The former Liverpool defender believes it is time to restore Simon Mignolet to the Reds side
Jamie Carragher has urged Jurgen Klopp to drop Loris Karius in favour of Simon Mignolet ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Middlesbrough on Wednesday night.
The Germany Under-21 international was heavily criticised for his poor performance in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Karius was unable to push Dimitri Payet’s free-kick to safety as the France international cancelled out Adam Lallana’s fifth-minute opener at Anfield.
The Liverpool summer signing has endured a tough couple of weeks after the German shot stopper’s poor handling led to Nathan Ake’s winner in a 4-3 loss to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium earlier this month.
Karius was named as Liverpool’s number one in the summer following his £4.7m move to the Merseyside outfit from Bundesliga side Mainz in the summer transfer window before he usurped Mignolet as Klopp’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Speaking to Sky Sports after Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with West Ham, Carragher was asked whether Klopp should drop Karius for Wednesday night’s trip to Middlesbrough.
And Carragher simply said: “I’d change for Mignolet.”
Liverpool finished eighth last season.
