Jamie Carragher’s response when asked if Man United can win the title

Jamie Carragher has played down the chances of Manchester United winning the Premier League title this season

Jamie Carragher has poured cold water on talk of Manchester United winning the Premier League title this season.

The Red Devils played out a 1-1 draw with Slaven Bilic’s stuttering West Ham United side at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon after Zlatan Ibrahimovic cancelled out Diafra Sakho’s first-half opener.

Manchester United are a staggering 11 points adrift of leaders Chelsea after winning just twice in their last 10 Premier League games in the 2016-17 season.

The Red Devils have drawn their last two games against Arsenal and West Ham, leaving the 20-time English champions eight points adrift of fourth-placed Arsenal.

Asked whether Manchester United were still title contenders ahead of their trip to Everton in their next Premier League game at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon, Carragher told Sky Sports News HQ: “No, I don’t think so.

“There isn’t a possibility they could win the league. I could be proven massively wrong. You always can be in football.

“There are too many teams ahead of them. I don’t think they’re good enough to win the league.”

Manchester United named former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho as Louis van Gaal’s successor in May after the Dutch coach led the Red Devils to a disappointing fifth-placed finish last term.
