Jamie Redknapp issues blunt warning to Arsenal man: It is time to step up
Jamie Redknapp believes that it is time for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to start producing regularly for Arsenal
Jamie Redknapp believes that it is time Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain stepped up his performances for Arsenal.
The 23-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot in the Arsenal team this season and most Gunners fans would agree that his form has been somewhat inconsistent.
Oxlade-Chamberlain will be eager to prove himself as worthy of a regular starting spot in the Arsenal team in the coming weeks as the hectic festive period in the Premier League looms large.
Former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp wants to see Oxlade-Chamberlain be a success at Arsenal but believes that it is time for him to step his game up.
Writing in his column for The Daily Mail, Redknapp said: “Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is a good player who I love to watch but he quickly needs to realise his potential.
“At 23 he is still not a regular in the Arsenal team. There have been times when he has impressed this season — he has scored six goals and notched his fourth assist in the league with a superb pass for Mesut Ozil to head Arsenal in front against Stoke.
“However, I still feel he is playing within himself. He looks fit and strong but despite starting seven matches in the league so far, he has completed 90 minutes once.
“Whenever I watch him at the Emirates there is a section of the crowd who are quick to turn on him when he doesn’t start well. Every player has experienced that at some point but you have to earn the plaudits.
“I want him to succeed but he must produce regularly and nail down his place or, like Jack Wilshere, he may have to look elsewhere. As with Ross Barkley at Everton, I feel he is at a bit of a crossroads. They are both too good not to be playing regularly.”
Oxlade-Chamberlain will be hoping to feature for Arsenal when the Gunners travel to Everton in the Premier League on Tuesday night.
The north London side were 3-1 winners over Stoke City at The Emirates on Saturday afternoon.
