Jamie Redknapp lavishes praise on Chelsea star after brilliant turnaround

Jamie Redknapp was full of praise for Diego Costa after his match-winning performance for Chelsea on Sunday

Jamie Redknapp has heaped praise on Diego Costa for the turnaround in form the Chelsea striker has managed this season.

The Spanish forward continued his fine form in the Premier League on Sunday when he scored the only goal of the game in Chelsea’s 1-0 win over West Brom at Stamford Bridge.

It was a crucial victory for the Blues as it hoisted them back to the top of the Premier League table and three points clear of Arsenal after 15 games of the new campaign.

Costa, like most of his Chelsea team-mates, struggled to find consistent form last season as the Blues ended up in 10th place in the Premier League table after a campaign to forget.

But Redknapp has been incredibly impressed by Costa’s improved attitude this season and feels that the Spaniard is now setting a fine example to young players.

Writing in his column for The Daily Mail, Redknapp said: “Last season Diego Costa was intent on making a nuisance of himself at Chelsea but under Antonio Conte he is becoming a fine example for young players.

“This season he is the centre forward who never rests.

“His work-rate is so high — just look at how he outmuscled Gareth McAuley and stole in to give Chelsea another three points against West Bromwich.”
