Jamie Redknapp: Liverpool signing has bigger problems than Man United goalkeeper
The former Liverpool captain delivers his verdict on Loris Karius after Sunday's 2-2 draw with West Ham
Jamie Redknapp believes Liverpool signing Loris Karius is struggling much more than David De Gea when the Spanish goalkeeper moved to Manchester United.
The Germany Under-21 international was criticised for another disappointing in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with West Ham United in the Premier League at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
Karius has failed to convince despite being made the club’s number one goalkeeper after his £4.7m move to Liverpool from Bundesliga outfit Mainz 05 in the summer transfer window.
Comparisons have been made between Karius and De Gea after the Manchester United first-choice goalkeeper struggled during his first couple of seasons at Old Trafford.
However, former Liverpool captain believes Karius is looking out of his depth in the Premier League, while Redknapp highlighted De Gea only had one area of weakness in his early days at Manchester United.
“De Gea’s big problem was people putting the ball into the box and not being able to deal with it. Karius isn’t catching the ball. He isn’t saving the ball. That’s the basics,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.
De Gea moved to Manchester United in an £18m deal from Atletico Madrid in 2011 under Sir Alex Ferguson.
Liverpool have only managed to secure one win in their last four Premier League games.
