Jamie Redknapp reacts to Cesc Fabregas’ display in Man City v Chelsea
Jamie Redknapp lavishes praise on Cesc Fabregas for his performance for Chelsea at Manchester City
Jamie Redknapp has heaped praise on Cesc Fabregas for his contribution to Chelsea’s 3-1 win at Manchester City on Saturday.
The Spanish playmaker was restored to the starting line-up in the absence of the injured Nemanja Matic, and the midfielder produced a strong display for Antonio Conte’s men.
With Chelsea trailing 1-0, Fabregas helped to set the Blues on their way to their comeback when his superb lofted pass found Diego Costa, who fired home to equalise for the visitors.
Goals from Willian and Eden Hazard then wrapped up the three points for the Blues, who kept their place at the top of the Premier League table.
Fabregas has seen his first-team opportunities at Chelsea severely limited this season following Conte’s appointment as the club’s new manager back in the summer.
However, Redknapp feels that the former Arsenal captain can still have a big part to play for the Blues this term.
Writing in his column for The Daily Mail, Redknapp said: “Cesc Fabregas’ ball for Diego Costa’s equaliser was the best pass of the season.
“It was like the quarterback picking out his wide receiver! Fabregas may not cover as much ground as N’Golo Kante or Nemanja Matic but can they play a pass like that?
“There will be tight games where Chelsea need someone to find that killer pass to unlock their opponent. Fabregas can be that player and Saturday’s display shows that he can play a big part this season.”
