Jamie Redknapp tells Arsenal: Follow Tottenham’s lead and do this
Jamie Redknapp has a warning for Arsenal about the futures of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil...
Jamie Redknapp has told Arsenal to follow Tottenham’s example and tie down their key players to new contracts.
Both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are believed to be in talks with the north London club about the possibility of extending their current deals beyond the summer of 2018.
Sanchez once again proved his worth to the Gunners on Saturday night when he scored a stunning second-half hat-trick to help to fire Arsenal to a 5-1 win at West Ham United.
Ozil also found the net as he scored the opener for Arsene Wenger’s men at the London Stadium.
And Redknapp feels that Arsenal must follow Tottenham’s lead after Spurs secured Harry Kane and Jan Vertonghen on new long-term contracts last week.
Writing in his column for The Daily Mail, Redknapp said: “Tottenham were given a huge boost last week with Harry Kane and Jan Vertonghen signing new deals.
“Now Arsenal must follow suit and get Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil signed up.
“I love watching Sanchez — he put on a masterclass against West Ham on Saturday.
“He has so much skill and flair but what I really admire is his desire to run and chase lost causes. You know that Sanchez will leave every ounce of sweat on the pitch.
“The fact that Sanchez and Ozil are yet sign sends a negative message to players who are thinking of joining Arsenal.
“The Premier League is so tight this season — I can equally see Arsenal winning the league or finishing fifth — and it is crucial they tie down their best players.”
Arsenal’s win at West Ham left them in second place in the Premier League table and three points behind leaders Chelsea after 14 games of the new season.
