Jamie Redknapp: This Chelsea signing is a superstar, he’s phenomenal

Jamie Redknapp says N'Golo Kante has been his player of the year in the Premier League in 2016

Jamie Redknapp has picked N’Golo Kante as his player of the year in the Premier League for 2016.

The France international has been one of the Premier League’s top players this season and his performances for Leicester City last term helped the Foxes win the Premier League title.

Kante earned plenty of new admirers for his displays for the Foxes last season and has carried on his fine performances since joining Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

And former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp has picked Kante as his standout player in the calendar year.

Asked to pick his player of the year, Redknapp told Sky Sports: “It is quite an easy one this – N’Golo Kante – his performances at Leicester last season were just phenomenal.

“I have never seen a player cover so much ground and work so hard for his team, never waste a ball, and play with so much energy.

“You can see the impact he is now having at Chelsea – he has had some 2016. He did not cost that much money either, but what a player. A superstar.”

Kante will not be available for selection when Chelsea take on Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Boxing Day due to suspension.
