Jamie Redknapp: This is who Chelsea need to sign in the January transfer window
Jamie Redknapp discusses Chelsea's transfer plans ahead of the January sales...
Jamie Redknapp believes that Chelsea should look to sign a new left wing-back as well as a new striker in the January transfer window.
The Blues have secured their status as the favourites to win the Premier League title this season following their stunning run in the top-flight under new boss Antonio Conte.
Chelsea will be top of the Premier League table over Christmas as Conte looks to steer the west London club to the title in his first season in charge at Stamford Bridge.
The January transfer window is drawing ever nearer and the speculation about which players the top clubs could move to sign in the new year is beginning to gather pace.
And Redknapp has given his assessment of what Chelsea need from the January window as Conte looks to bolster his squad and boost their title challenge.
Speaking to The Daily Mail, Redknapp said: “I’m sure Chelsea would love to find the next Ashley Cole to play in their system as a left wing back, although they are difficult to find. Marcos Alonso has done ever so well but it is an area where Chelsea can improve.
“I would also look for cover up front. Unlike Costa, Michy Batshuayi doesn’t look the most intelligent of forwards. When Costa is on form he is unplayable — he holds the ball up, scores goals and is a nasty piece of work.
“If Costa gets injured for the rest of the season, you would struggle to see how they would win the League given their back-up options.”
Chelsea finished 10th and without a trophy last season following Jose Mourinho’s sacking back in December of last year.
