Jamie Redknapp warns Liverpool: Forget about the title unless this changes
Jamie Redknapp comments on Liverpool's defensive struggles after their 4-3 loss to Bournemouth on Sunday
Jamie Redknapp believes that Liverpool can forget about winning the Premier League title this season unless they fix their leaky defence.
The Reds suffered a blow to their title ambitions on Sunday afternoon when they twice squandered a two-goal lead and were eventually beaten 4-3 by Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
It was Liverpool’s first defeat since their loss to Burnley back in August and it left Jurgen Klopp’s men trailing Premier League leaders Chelsea by four points after 14 games.
Questions have inevitably been asked about Liverpool’s defending after Klopp’s side conceded four times in the second half against the Cherries.
And former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp feels that the Reds must improve that side of their game if they want to be able to challenge for the title this season.
Writing in his column for The Daily Mail, Redknapp said: “Liverpool are not going to win the title this season unless they sort out their defence.
“They sorely missed the injured Joel Matip and with two midfielders — Lucas and James Milner — in their back four I was not surprised that they conceded four goals.
“I have never seen a team more in control as Liverpool were against Bournemouth on Sunday go on to lose.”
