Jamie Redknapp: What’s different about Liverpool midfielder this season
The former Liverpool captain explains how Adam Lallana has improved in 2016-17 season
Adam Lallana is playing with more confidence in the Liverpool side this season, according to Jamie Redknapp.
The England international has been in excellent form since his return from injury, which failed to hamper the attacking midfielder following an impressive start to the season under Jurgen Klopp.
Lallana had been in excellent form before the Merseyside derby after a return of three goals and one assist in his last two Premier League appearances.
The 28-year-old scored Liverpool’s opener in a 2-2 draw with West Ham United before the playmaker netted twice and made an assist in a 3-0 win at Middlesbrough on Wednesday night.
Lallana has now scored six times and has made four assists in 14 Premier League appearances this term.
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Monday night’s Merseyside derby, Redknapp lavished praise on Lallana for his transformation under Klopp this term.
“I’ve enjoyed watching Adam Lallana playing so well and scoring goals for Liverpool. He’s one of the best players in the Premier League right now, and he’s a great lad who deserves everything he gets,” Redknapp said.
“The big difference for him this season has been his confidence. He has got a manager in Jurgen Klopp who really believes in him and insists that he gets into those areas to make and score goals.”
Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table last season after Klopp was appointed as their manager back in October 2015.
