John Barnes is not expecting to see Manchester United splash the cash in the January transfer window.
The Red Devils spent big over the summer following Jose Mourinho’s appointment as the club’s new manager back in May.
Manchester United brought in Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Paul Pogba and Eric Bailly as Mourinho moved quickly to bolster his squad at Old Trafford.
There is bound to be plenty of speculation about which players the Red Devils could sign as the January transfer window edges ever nearer.
However, former Liverpool star Barnes feels that the Red Devils are not likely to be out to sign many players in the new year.
Asked if he expects Manchester United to spend big in January, England legend Barnes told The Sport Review: “No, I don’t think so.
“They spent a lot of money in the summer and got the players they wanted.
“They’ve got a good squad so I don’t think they are going to dip into the market because they’ve got a good squad, they just have to start turning it around.
“Their problem is not that they haven’t got the strength in depth, but maybe they are lacking in confidence and things haven’t gone their way.
“I don’t expect them to be looking at transfers [in] at all in January.”
Manchester United finished fifth and won the FA Cup under Louis van Gaal last season before the Dutchman was sacked and replaced by Mourinho.
