John Hartson reacts to Diego Costa’s performance in Chelsea’s 1-0 win at Crystal Palace
The former Arsenal and West Ham forward hails Diego Costa as a top-class striker after his performance in a 1-0 win at Palace
John Hartson hailed Diego Costa as a world-class centre-forward after his header sealed a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon.
Chelsea broke the deadlock just before half-time after Costa managed to guide a header past Palace goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey following Cesar Azpilicueta’s superb cross.
Costa has now scored 13 times in 17 games in the 2016-17 Premier League season so far to help the west London side move nine points clear of their closest title rivals Arsenal and Liverpool.
The 28-year-old striker suffered a blow in the first half, though, after he picked up his fifth yellow card of the campaign which means Costa will be suspended for the visit of Bournemouth on Boxing Day.
Former Arsenal striker Hartson lavished praise on Costa for his outstanding performance against the Eagles as Chelsea extended their winning run to 11 Premier League games.
“Costa has not had a lot of efforts today but he took his goal brilliantly,” Hartson told BBC Sport.
“He has occupied the defenders, won fouls and been aggressive.
“Costa has been Costa. A top class centre-forward performance.”
Chelsea finished in tenth place in the Premier League table last season.
The Blues haven’t won the title since 2015.
