Jordan Henderson: This Liverpool duo have given us a huge lift

The Liverpool captain discusses the impact that Daniel Sturridge and Emre Can have on Jurgen Klopp's side

Jordan Henderson says Emre Can and Daniel Sturridge have given Liverpool a huge boost after the duo’s return to the Liverpool side at Goodison Park on Monday night.

Jurgen Klopp brought on the Germany midfielder and England striker with eight minutes remaining in the Merseyside derby with the Premier League clash heading for a goalless stalemate.

However, Sturridge provided a moment of magic as he managed to evade the Everton defence before hitting the woodwork from outside the area, with Sadio Mane pouncing on the rebound to score a dramatic winner in the fourth minute of added time.

Can replaced Adam Lallana in the final moments of the Merseyside derby to consolidate Klopp’s midfield before Liverpool’s last-gasp winner at Goodison Park.

The England striker made his first appearance since a goalless draw with Southampton in November last month, while Can has been sidelined with a problem since a 4-3 loss to Bournemouth at the start of the month.

Discussing the impact that Can and Sturridge have on the Liverpool side, captain Henderson heaped praise on the duo.

“It gave us a huge lift again because they are two big players coming back from injuries so to see them come on was brilliant, and I thought they were brilliant when they came on,” Henderson told Liverpool’s website.

“Daniel gave us that little bit of magic to get us the winner and you need that, you need the squad depth.”
