Jose Mourinho has his say on Manchester United's hopes of winning the title this season
Jose Mourinho is refusing to rule Manchester United out of the title race this season.
The Red Devils have made something of a stuttering start to life under their new manager following his appointment as the club’s new boss in the summer.
Mourinho’s men have struggled to string together consistent performances under their new coach this season as they look to at least break back into the top four this term.
Mourinho has been tasked with steering United back to the top of English football following his arrival as Louis van Gaal’s permanent successor at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are aiming to bounce back from their fifth placed finish in the Premier League last season.
Mourinho says that United’s ultimate “destination” is to win the Premier League title but has quietly conceded that may not happen this season – despite not ruling the possibility out completely.
Speaking to United’s website ahead of Sunday’s game at Everton, Mourinho said: “When I speak about destination, I think that destination is for us to be champions.
“That might not be this year, maybe we cannot do it. Anything is possible in football, but maybe we don’t do it as there is a gap between us and the top.

“The destination is for us to be champions. I don’t know when, maybe next year or in two years’ time, maybe when I am not here and somebody else comes but, if we follow this direction, the destination is for us to be champions.”
