Jose Mourinho destroys Michael Owen after Man United comments
Jose Mourinho hit back at Michael Owen after his recent comments about Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Jose Mourinho has hit back at Michael Owen’s recent comments about Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Manchester United.
Owen recently suggested that Ibrahimovic was brought in as a short-term solution to Manchester United’s striking problems after he joined the Red Devils from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer in the summer.
However, the Manchester United boss was clearly less than impressed with the remarks and hit back at the BT Sport pundit in the build-up to Manchester United’s clash with Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with BT Sport, Mourinho said: “Your colleague Michael Owen doesn’t like him.
“The reality is that Zlatan will score more goals in one season than Michael Owen [did] in three seasons at Man United. He scored 17 goals in three seasons.
“Zlatan is almost there in six months so he’s not a bad choice for us.”
Owen was then given his chance to respond to Mourinho’s comments live after Arsenal’s 2-1 loss to Everton.
The former Manchester United striker smiled: “Managers are getting awfully touchy!
“I think I said that Zlatan wasn’t the long-term type of player and that at some point Man United have to find the next Wayne Rooney.
“My goals were of more value to Man United because I think I cost about 10 per cent of what Zlatan’s on per week!”
Manchester United are currently gearing up for their Premier League clash against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Ibrahimovic has scored eight Premier League goals in 14 games in the top flight so far this season for Mourinho’s men.
