Jose Mourinho makes honest admission about Man United’s January transfer plans
Jose Mourinho confirms that he will not stand in the way of Morgan Schneiderlin if he wants to leave Manchester United in January
Jose Mourinho has confirmed that he will not stand in the way of Morgan Schneiderlin if the midfielder wants to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window.
The French midfielder’s situation at Old Trafford has been a source of speculation in recent weeks due to his lack of playing time for the Red Devils this term.
Schneiderlin has been touted as a possible transfer target for Premier League rivals Everton in recent days.
Now, Mourinho has delivered a frank and honest update about Schneiderlin’s situation at Old Trafford as the January transfer window draws ever nearer.
Speaking at his pre-match news conference on Friday ahead of Manchester United’s clash with Sunderland on Boxing Day, Mourinho said: “Yes [Schneiderlin has asked to leave].
“He’s a great professional, a fantastic boy. He’s very honest and very open.
“To be honest, he opened his heart a couple of times, and my answer is simple; if he’s playing regularly with me, I have the right to say ‘no way’. If he’s not playing regularly, I have no right to tell a player who wants to be happy, I have no right to say ‘you are going nowhere’.
“My answer was: if the offer is right, and our board thinks the offer is a good offer in relation to the quality of a very good player like Morgan, then I would not stop him going.”
Manchester United finished fifth and won the FA Cup last season under Louis van Gaal.
The Red Devils are looking to make if four wins in a row in the Premier League on Boxing Day when they host the Black Cats at Old Trafford.
