Jose Mourinho reacts to Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s display against Spurs, delivers injury update
Jose Mourinho has his say about Henrikh Mkhitaryan and reveals the latest on the Manchester United playmaker's injury
Jose Mourinho has revealed that he is hoping Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s injury is not as serious as first feared.
Mkhitaryan was forced off in the second half of Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Tottenham on Sunday after landing awkwardly on his ankle during a clash with Danny Rose.
The Armenia international scored the only goal of the game in the first half at Old Trafford as Mourinho’s men returned to winning ways in the Premier League and cut the gap to Manchester City in fourth place down to six points.
Mkhitaryan was carried off on a stretcher at Old Trafford but Mourinho appeared to be positive about the playmaker’s situation after the game.
Mourinho is quoted as saying by United’s website: “It looks like the next match is a no, but it looks like it is nothing that is really dangerous or that needs surgery, so hopefully we will probably have Micki on Boxing Day [against Sunderland].”
The Manchester United manager continued: “We scored a fantastic goal and it was so important for us at the end.
“Once more, the goalkeeper [Hugo Lloris] was not the Man of the Match, because Mkhitaryan deserved that, but he could have been.
“For the way we play, we don’t deserve to suffer, to arrive in the last few minutes with the cap in our hands.
“We deserved to be enjoying the match and we cannot enjoy the match when we are under pressure.”
Manchester United return to Premier League action on Wednesday with a trip to Crystal Palace, before they take on West Brom at the Hawthorns next weekend.
