Jose Mourinho states his prediction for Man United v Middlesbrough

Jose Mourinho looks ahead to Manchester United's clash with Middlesbrough on New Year's Eve

Jose Mourinho has warned his Manchester United players not to take anything for granted as they prepare to take on Middlesbrough in the Premier League on New Year’s Eve.

The Portuguese coach watched his Manchester United side notch up their fourth straight win in the Premier League on Monday afternoon as they secured a 3-1 win over Sunderland to continue their improved form in the top flight.

It has been something of a mixed start to life for Mourinho at Old Trafford following his appointment as the club’s new manager in the summer.

Indeed, the Red Devils currently trail Premier League leaders Chelsea by 13 points heading into 2017.

And Mourinho has warned his Manchester United players to expect a stern test of their title credentials when they host Middlesbrough on 31 December.

Speaking to Manchester United’s website after their victory over Sunderland, Mourinho said: “It’s a difficult one. Middlesbrough need points as they lost today against Burnley.

“Aitor Karanka will come here obviously to try and he is a big friend of mine. You forget friends in football and he will come here to try to get something from that match.

“It’s one more difficult match.”
