Jurgen Klopp: It’s important to have Liverpool duo back, they give me options
The Liverpool manager is happy with have Emre Can and Daniel Sturridge available in the Reds squad
Jurgen Klopp has welcomed the return of Daniel Sturridge and Emre Can to full fitness ahead of Liverpool’s home clash against Stoke City next week.
The England international was named on the substitutes’ bench at Goodison Park earlier this week after Sturridge missed the last four games with an injury problem.
The 27-year-old was a second-half substitute with the Merseyside derby goalless after Roberto Firmino was denied by Everton goalkeepers Maarten Stekelenburg and Joel Robles.
Jurgen Klopp’s substitution proved to be a masterstroke as Sturridge hit the post in the fourth minute of added time to allow Sadio Mane to break the deadlock after the African forward pounced on the rebound.
Can came off the bench in the final 10 minutes to replace Adam Lallana as Klopp looked to solidify his midfield in the derby clash.
Speaking to Liverpool’s website after their dramatic 1-0 win against Everton at Goodison Park on Monday night, Klopp talked up the return of Can and Sturridge.
“It was very important [to have them back],” Klopp said.
“Daniel, [had] trained only two times, so we were really waiting for the moment when we could use him, [then] the game was for him at the end. Twice training is not the biggest intensity.
“It was pretty much the same for Emre, who trained a little bit longer and didn’t have a long break.
“It’s very important they are back. We need these options to change to do some things in and around a game. It’s good.”
