Jurgen Klopp provides latest Liverpool transfer update on midfielder
The Liverpool manager plays down reports linking Lucas Leiva with a loan move to Inter Milan
Jurgen Klopp has played down speculation linking Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva with a loan move to Inter Milan in the January transfer window.
The Brazil international has struggled to secure regular first-team football under the Liverpool manager this season after falling behind Emre Can and Georginio Wijnaldum in the pecking order at the Anfield outfit.
BBC Sport reported on Tuesday morning that Inter Milan are interested in signing the experienced South American defensive midfielder next month to bolster their options heading into the second half of the 2016-17 Serie A campaign.
Liverpool were 4-1 winners against Stoke City on Tuesday evening thanks to goals from Adam Lallana, Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge at Anfield as well as Giannelli Imbula’s second-half own goal.
Asked about Inter Milan’s reported interest in Lucas after Liverpool’s 4-1 win at Anfield, Klopp told BBC Sport:
“When it is not speculation then there will be something to say.”
Lucas has started three Premier League games and has made a further five appearances from the bench in the English top flight this season.
The Reds are in second place and six points behind leaders Chelsea.
