Jurgen Klopp: How my Liverpool players reacted to Sadio Mane signing
The Liverpool manager explains what improvements Sadio Mane has made to his game
Jurgen Klopp has revealed that his Liverpool players welcomed Sadio Mane with open arms following his big-money move to Anfield in the summer.
The Senegal international moved to Liverpool in a £34m deal from Southampton in the summer transfer window as Klopp looked to bolster his squad ahead of his first full season in charge at Anfield.
Mane has been a huge hit at the 18-time English champions after helping to transform the Merseyside outfit into Premier League title contenders after 16 games so far this term.
The 24-year-old has scored seven goals and has made four assists in 15 Premier League games in the current campaign – more than any of his Liverpool team-mates ahead of Monday night’s Merseyside derby.
Klopp explained how Mane has improved since his summer transfer and revealed that his squad have taken to the Senegalese forward.
“The quality of the player, the character of the team,” Klopp told The Liverpool Echo.
“They had really open arms for him from the first second they heard we were signing Sadio Mane. They were like ‘Oh! Okay!’ That helps.
“They were brilliant with him. The club, the atmosphere… That stuff helps, and a little bit of luck.
“It worked out that he scored in his first game with a goal like this (against Arsenal). Come on! In a game like this, it makes everything easier.
“Then there is his attitude. He is a really hard working boy. He is really open for advice.
“He wants each kind of improvement. He wants to do different things. He is good. He’s really good.
“The best news for me was that I could sign him. It was a mistake not to get him for Dortmund. The fact that I could get him a second time was good, really good.”
Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table last season.
The Reds appointed Klopp as their new manager back in October 2015.
