Jurgen Klopp’s response when asked how Liverpool transfers could affect squad
The Liverpool manager addresses the effect that making January signings could have on his squad
Jurgen Klopp doesn’t believe potential signings in the January transfer window could affect the dynamics in his Reds squad.
The Merseyside outfit have been one of the most-impressive clubs in the 2016-17 Premier League season so far after pushing leaders Chelsea in the title race thanks to their attacking performances.
Liverpool are the English top flight’s leading goal-scorers after a return of 41 goals in 37 games in the current campaign, including their 1-0 win against Everton in the Merseyside derby last week.
The Reds signed seven players in the summer transfer window to bolster their squad ahead of the 2016-17 season following an eighth-place finish in the Premier League table last term.
Speaking to Liverpool’s website ahead of their home clash against Stoke City on Tuesday evening, Klopp was asked whether new signings could have a negative effect on his Reds players.
“No,” Klopp said.
The Liverpool manager continued: “I think usually in the window, if you don’t have the biggest injury issues in the world and you need players only for the line-up then you should only do things you would do in the summer too, because otherwise you solve a problem for half a year then have another one in the summer.”
Liverpool are six points behind leaders Chelsea after 17 games in the 2016-17 campaign so far.
The Reds have won their last two Premier League games against Everton and Middlesbrough.
