Wenger delivers latest Arsenal injury update ahead of Boxing Day clash

Arsene Wenger confirms that Danny Welbeck is set to return to training for Arsenal this weekend

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Danny Welbeck is due to return to training with Arsenal this weekend ahead of his long-awaited comeback from injury.

The England striker is yet to feature for Arsenal this season after he suffered a knee problem towards the end of the last campaign.

Welbeck is now closing in on a return to action for Arsenal to give Wenger’s men a much-needed boost in the race for the title.

Wenger also confirmed that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will miss the Boxing Day clash against West Brom at The Emirates, and that Aaron Ramsey will undergo a late fitness test.

Speaking at his pre-match news conference on Friday morning, Wenger said:”I think for Monday we lose Chamberlain from the last game against City.

“I don’t know if Ramsey will be involved or not but he will be back in full training today.

“The good news is that Welbeck will join in today for the first time – he has been out for a very long time.

“Mustafi is still out until the beginning of January.”

He added: “It’s not very bad. It’s a question of days rather than weeks.”

Arsenal head into their Premier League clash against West Brom on Boxing Day looking to return to winning ways in the top flight after their back to back defeats at the hands of Everton and Manchester City.

The Gunners are currently nine points behind leaders Chelsea.
