Wenger delivers latest Arsenal injury update ahead of West Ham trip
Arsene Wenger delivers the latest fitness updates on Mohamed Elneny and Olivier Giroud
Arsene Wenger has revealed that Mohamed Elneny suffered with sickness in the build-up to Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to Southampton in the League Cup on Wednesday night.
The Egypt international was substituted before half-time during the game after initially telling Wenger that he felt fit enough to start the game.
Speaking after the EFL Cup quarter-final defeat Wenger gave the latest Arsenal update about both Elneny and striker Olivier Giroud.
Wenger told his post-match news conference: “He [Elneny] was sick before the game. He decided he felt well enough. I could see after five or 10 minutes that he was not right. He has no medical injury problem, but he has diarrhoea or a stomach problem.”
On Giroud, he added: “Giroud is short, but has a chance to be available for Saturday.”
Arsenal now turn their attentions back to Premier League affairs and their trip to the London Stadium to take on West Ham United on Saturday night.
The Gunners returned to winning ways in the top flight last weekend when they secured a 3-1 win over Bournemouth at The Emirates.
Arsenal – who finished in second place in the top flight last term – head into this weekend’s round of fixtures in fourth place and three points behind leaders Chelsea after 13 games of the new season.
