Mourinho delivers latest Man United injury update ahead of Everton trip
Jose Mourinho gives the latest Manchester United team news ahead of Sunday's trip to Everton
Luke Shaw has been ruled out of Manchester United’s trip to Everton on Sunday due to injury, Jose Mourinho has confirmed.
The defender picked up a knock during the 4-1 EFL Cup quarter-final win over West Ham United on Wednesday night and has been ruled out of the trip to Goodison Park.
However, the Red Devils are set to welcome Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini back from suspension for the trip to Merseyside.
United will also be without the suspended Wayne Rooney for their clash against Ronald Koeman’s men at Goodison Park.
Speaking at his pre-match news conference on Friday afternoon, Mourinho commented on the latest Manchester United team news ahead of the game.
Mourinho is quoted as saying by United’s website: “The injury [to Luke] is a pity.
“We were on this process of developing him as a player – he has a lot to learn and great potential to develop so we were giving him 90 minutes. Not consecutive matches but 90 minutes against Feyenoord then, one week later, 90 minutes against West Ham, but he got this little injury.
“In the squad, we are in a very good position with injuries – the two central defenders and Luke is what we have. Everybody is doing really well to keep that record good in such a difficult season with so many matches. Hopefully, we progress in the cup competitions and have more cup games to play in the second part of the season.
“Wayne’s absence comes in the sequence of the yellow cards that stopped Ibra [Zlatan Ibrahimovic] playing against Arsenal, the sequence of yellow cards that stopped Marouane Fellaini and Paul Pogba playing against West Ham. But, OK, everybody makes mistakes and [it’s] no problem.”
Manchester United finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season.
The Red Devils are looking to return to winning ways in the Premier League after their 1-1 draw with West Ham last weekend.
