Lauren: This Arsenal defender can become the best in the world

The Arsenal legend believes Hector Bellerin is already one of the world's best right-backs

Hector Bellerin can become the best right-back in the world, according to former Arsenal defender Lauren.

The Spain international has established himself as a regular in Arsene Wenger’s team over the past 24 months.

Bellerin was named in the PFA Premier League team of the year last season after the full-back scored one goal in 36 top-flight appearances.

The Spanish defender has managed to move ahead of Mathieu Debuchy and Carl Jenkinson in the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium.

Bellerin has already made two assists in 15 Premier League appearances this term despite suffering an ankle injury in November.

Lauren played at right-back in Wenger’s most-recent title-winning side in 2003-04 when the retired Cameroon international helped Arsenal to remain unbeaten throughout that campaign.

The former Arsenal defender believes Bellerin is on course to become the world’s best right-back.

“Hector is world class,” Lauren told Arsenal’s website.

“He’s still young and he still needs to work on some things, but he’s a very, very good player and a very good right-back.

“If he carries on the way he’s going, he can become the best right-back in the world.”

Bellerin moved to Arsenal as part of the deal that saw Cesc Fabregas seal a return to Barcelona in 2011.
