Liverpool legend: Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez is the best around but I’m still not convinced

Steve McManaman has his say about Alexis Sanchez's form for Arsenal up front this season

Steve McManaman believes that Alexis Sanchez is probably the best player in the Premier League on current form – but is still not convinced by Arsenal’s attacking options this season.

The Gunners have been in fine form in recent weeks, with Sanchez being deployed in a central striking role for the north London side.

Sanchez has already hit 11 goals in Arsenal’s first 15 games of the campaign to help Arsene Wenger’s men challenge for the Premier League title.

However, despite all of the praise headed Sanchez’s way, former Liverpool man McManaman feels that Arsenal are still short up front.

The ex Reds midfielder underlined his belief that Arsenal are still in need of an out-and-out centre-forward to partner Sanchez.

Speaking on BT Sport’s Premier League Tonight show on Saturday, McManaman said: “I think Alexis Sanchez is an incredible footballer, he’s arguably the best player around in the Premier League at this moment – he’s that dangerous.

“But I’d rather them have a great centre-forward and Alexis Sanchez playing behind.

“Walcott, Giroud and Sanchez will do a job up front because they have a great squad – but I’d rather they had a great centre-forward and Alexis Sanchez.”
