Liverpool legend delivers encouraging verdict on Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil-Alexis Sanchez partnership
Steven Gerrard is impressed with the selflessness of Arsenal duo Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez
Steven Gerrard has hailed the flourishing Arsenal partnership between Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.
The Gunners have been in excellent form in the Champions League and the Premier League in recent months after managing to go unbeaten in 19 games in both competitions.
Sanchez has scored a remarkable 11 goals and has made four assists in 14 Premier League games in the 2016-17 season, including a hat-trick in the north London side’s 5-1 win at West Ham United.
Ozil, on the other hand, has netted eight times and has made five assists in the Premier League and the Champions League so far this term.
The pair combined to tee up Lucas Perez for his hat-trick goal on Tuesday as Arsenal eased to a 4-1 victory over Basel in Switzerland.
Gerrard knows a thing or two about deadly partnership after the former Liverpool captain teamed up to devastating effect with Fernando Torres and Luis Suarez during his Anfield career.
Speaking on BT Sport ahead of Arsenal’s 4-1 win at Basel, Gerrard heaped praise on Ozil and Sanchez as a combination.
“He [Sanchez] is that good because he can play anywhere across the front line,” Gerrard said.
“For me, him and Ozil – the partnership is getting stronger and they seem to love playing with each other.
“They create goals for each other – there’s no selfishness.”
