Liverpool legend issues title warning to Jurgen Klopp ahead of Bournemouth clash
John Aldridge has a warning for Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool players in the Premier League title race
John Aldridge has warned Jurgen Klopp that his Liverpool side will have to cope with injury setbacks if the Reds are going to win the Premier League title.
The Merseyside outfit suffered a blow last weekend after Coutinho sustained a serious ankle injury during the first half of their 2-0 win over Sunderland.
Liverpool have been without England midfielder Adam Lallana in recent weeks, although the former Southampton man returned to training on Friday.
The Reds started the weekend in second place in the Premier League table and two points adrift of leaders Chelsea after last weekend’s 2-0 win at Anfield.
Former Liverpool striker Aldridge warned Klopp that the 18-time English champions have to show the resilience to cope with fitness setbacks.
“We’ve got a really good squad but you can’t afford too many injuries in one certain place, up top you can get stretched, in midfield you can get stretched,” Aldridge told The Liverpool Echo.
“You need a little bit of luck to fight for the title. Teams over the years have not been hampered by injuries and suspensions when they’ve gone on to win the league.”
Liverpool haven’t lost a Premier League game since a 2-0 defeat by Burnley at Turf Moor in their second fixture of the 2016-17 season.
The Reds booked their place in the EFL Cup last four on Tuesday night thanks to a 2-0 win over Leeds United.
