Liverpool legend: Jurgen Klopp replicating Jose Mourinho’s impact at Chelsea
The Liverpool legend discusses Jurgen Klopp's bond with his Reds squad.
Jamie Carragher believes Jurgen Klopp has forged a close bond with his Liverpool players like Jose Mourinho managed to do during his first spell at Chelsea.
The 49-year-old German coach took over the reins of Liverpool back in October 2015 after the Merseyside outfit made a disappointing start to the campaign.
Klopp managed to guide the Reds to two cup finals in his first season at Anfield but Liverpool lost to Manchester City and Sevilla in the League Cup and Europa League finals.
Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table but notched up impressive victories over Chelsea, Manchester City and Everton in the English top flight.
Mourinho led Chelsea to two Premier League titles, two League Cups and the FA Cup during his initial three-and-a-half year stint at the west London club between 2004 and 2008.
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Liverpool’s 4-3 loss to Bournemouth, Carragher likened Klopp’s impact at the Anfield outfit to Mourinho’s first Chelsea reign.
“You can see they absolutely love him. Adam Lallana says he enjoys working hard under him. I’ve never heard a player say that before. He makes you enjoy it,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“It takes me back to Jose Mourinho when he first went to Chelsea, you could see there was a bond between him and the players. You can see that with Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp.”
