Liverpool legend questions Diego Costa at Chelsea
Phil Thompson has his say on Diego Costa's current form at Chelsea under Antonio Conte
Phil Thompson has questioned whether Diego Costa will still be keeping his cool when things are not going so well for Chelsea this season.
The Spanish striker has earned plenty of praise for his performances for the west London club this season and is currently Chelsea’s top scorer.
The Brazilian-born forward has been applauded for seemingly being able to keep his famously fiery tempter in check for most of the campaign.
However, former Liverpool man Thompson feels that the real proof will only come once Chelsea have endured a stuttering run of form under their new manager Antonio Conte.
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Manchester City on Saturday, Thompson said: “Chelsea are relying on Costa’s goals a lot and the turnaround of his and Hazard’s form under Conte is nothing short of astounding.
“His temperament is an interesting one. People are saying that Conte has got him more focused but I think it’s just because they’re winning.
“We’ll see if he keeps his cool if they stop winning games.”
Chelsea are aiming to bounce back from their disastrous 10th-placed finish in the Premier League last season as they ended up without a trophy.
