Liverpool signing’s confidence will be floored, Arsenal legend warns Jurgen Klopp
Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright is worried about Loris Karius' confidence after Liverpool snub
Ian Wright has warned Jurgen Klopp that Loris Karius’ confidence will shaken after the Liverpool manager dropped his first-choice goalkeeper.
The German shot stopper has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League following his £4.7m transfer to Liverpool from Bundesliga side Mainz.
Karius struggled in Liverpool’s 4-3 defeat by Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium and a 2-2 draw with West Ham United at Anfield in December.
The 23-year-old’s clumsy performances prompted Klopp to drop Karius and restore Simon Mignolet to the Liverpool side for Wednesday night’s trip to Middlesbrough.
Liverpool were 3-0 winners against Boro thanks to goals either side of half-time from Adam Lallana and Divock Origi’s strike in his fifth successive game.
Speaking on The Sun Goals podcast ahead of Liverpool’s Merseyside derby on Monday night, ex-Arsenal striker Wright explained the impact Klopp’s snub will have on Karius.
“To go through all the papers and everything that’s gone on, to then drop him, then they win, it’s put more pressure on the goalkeeper when he does come back in. His confidence is through the floor.”
Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table last season.
Klopp signed seven players in the summer transfer window.
