Liverpool star: This is ridiculous but we will cope with it

James Milner reflects on Liverpool's hectic festive schedule in the Premier League

James Milner insists that Liverpool will be capable of coping with their “ridiculous” festive schedule in the Premier League.

Liverpool are preparing to take on Manchester City on New Year’s Eve, before playing Sunderland on 2 January in a hectic run of Premier League games.

The busy schedule is likely to be a big test of Liverpool’s fitness levels as Jurgen Klopp’s men look to keep their themselves in the title race heading into the new year.

However, although Milner concedes that Liverpool’s fixture list will prove a test, he is confident that Klopp’s men will be able to cope in the coming days.

Speaking in an interview with Liverpool’s website ahead of their game against Stoke on Tuesday night, Milner said: “The schedule we’ve got is pretty ridiculous – two games in less than two days, which is not easy.

“You expect games thick and fast this time of year, but we have to touch wood there and hope we get a bit of luck with injuries on that because obviously it’s going to be a big hit, but we have to make sure we’re ready.

“I think we’re arguably up there with the fittest squads in the league so if anyone can deal with that load, we can.”
