Jamie Carragher states his prediction for Liverpool v Man City

Jamie Carragher looks ahead to Liverpool's clash with Manchester City in the Premier League on New Year's Eve

Jamie Carragher is backing Liverpool to cause Manchester City some serious problems in the Premier League title race when Pep Guardiola’s side travel to Anfield on Saturday.

The Reds have been in fine form in recent weeks and continued their title challenge when they came from a goal down to beat Stoke City at Anfield on Tuesday night.

That win left Jurgen Klopp’s men in second place in the Premier League table and six points behind leaders Chelsea heading into their crunch clash against City at Anfield.

Manchester City, meanwhile, are third in the table and a point behind the Reds heading into the New Year’s Eve showdown.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher believes that Liverpool will be able to use their home advantage against Guardiola’s side during the game.

Speaking to Sky Sports after Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Stoke on Tuesday, Carragher said: “It’s a big game. Pep Guardiola was here tonight.

“I think with the way City and Liverpool play, Liverpool can cause them problems if they’re playing well with the ball and building from the back.

“You think Liverpool could be aggressive with the crowd behind them.”
