Michael Owen states his prediction for Liverpool v Man City
Michael Owen looks ahead to Liverpool's clash with Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday
Michael Owen is tipping Liverpool to beat Manchester City to keep their Premier League title bid on track on Saturday night.
The Reds are preparing to host Pep Guardiola’s side at Anfield as they look to continue their strong start to the new campaign under their new boss.
Liverpool were 4-1 winners over Stoke City at Anfield on Tuesday night as they maintained their place in second in the table behind leaders Chelsea.
And former Liverpool striker Owen is tipping the Reds to claim all three points when they host Manchester City on Merseyside on New Year’s Eve.
Writing in his column for BetVictor, Owen said: “You have to go back to May 2003 for the last, and only, time City have beaten Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League and I can’t see this current City side bucking that trend in what looks sure to be a wonderful game and occasion to mark the end of 2016.”
Liverpool are looking to win the Premier League title for the first time in the wake of Jurgen Klopp’s appointment at Anfield last October.
The Merseyside outfit finished in eighth place in the top flight last season and without a trophy as Leicester were crowned champions.
