Ian Wright states prediction for Liverpool v Man City

The former Arsenal striker is confident Liverpool can land a significant blow on their title rivals at Anfield

Ian Wright is confident that Liverpool will edge to victory over Manchester City in their top of the table clash at Anfield on New Year’s Eve.

The Reds have a good record against the Citizens in the Premier League and haven’t lost against the Eastlands outfit since Nicolas Anelka’s winner in 2002.

Liverpool are in second place in the Premier League table and six points behind leaders Chelsea after their 4-1 win against Stoke City on Tuesday night.

The 18-time English champions have also beaten Middlesbrough and Everton in their last two Premier League outings to kick-start their campaign.

Manchester City, meanwhile, were 3-0 winners against Hull City at the KCOM Stadium to maintain their two point lead over fourth-placed Arsenal.

Speaking on The Sun Goals podcast, Wright tipped Liverpool to edge past Manchester City at Anfield on New Year’s Eve.

“It’s more important for Liverpool to stay in touch with Chelsea. That’s why I think it’s a must win game for Liverpool. I’m going Liverpool win,” Wright said.

Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table last term.

The Merseyside outfit have never won the Premier League despite finishing in runners-up spot in 2002, 2009 and 2014.
