Mark Lawrenson states prediction for Liverpool v Man City
The former Liverpool defender is backing Jurgen Klopp's side to draw 1-1 with Manchester City
Mark Lawrenson believes Manchester City will hold Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at Anfield on New Year’s Eve.
The Merseyside outfit were 4-1 winners against Stoke City on Tuesday evening thanks to goals from Adam Lallana, Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge.
Liverpool have won their last three Premier League games following victories over Middlesbrough, Everton and Stoke ahead of the visit of the Citizens.
The Reds were 3-0 winners against Manchester City in this fixture last term as Jurgen Klopp steered the club to an eighth-place finish in his first Premier League season.
The Citizens were 3-0 winners against Mike Phelan’s struggling Hull City side in their last Premier League outing to remain a point behind Liverpool in the title race.
Former Liverpool defender Lawrenson is backing Manchester City to cause Klopp and his players plenty of problems at Anfield on New Year’s Eve.
“I always feel with Manchester City going into games like this that their big players will produce,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“Yaya Toure is one of those big players who has hit some form and I think he will play a big part for them at Anfield.
“I still think City will concede, because I cannot see them keeping a clean sheet against Liverpool no matter whether they play with four at the back – which seems to work best for them – or three.
“So I am going for a draw. We know how good Liverpool are going forward, but I think City will pose a threat too.”
Liverpool are six points adrift of Premier League leaders Chelsea after 18 games.
The Reds signed seven players in the summer transfer window.
