Mark Lawrenson states prediction for Man City v Arsenal
The former Liverpool defender is predicting a stalemate between Manchester City and Arsenal in the title race
Mark Lawrenson is backing Manchester City and Arsenal to play out a 1-1 stalemate at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Citizens returned to winning ways on Wednesday night thanks to a 2-0 win against Watford at the Etihad Stadium after goals from Nolito and David Silva.
Arsenal, on the other hand, saw their impressive 14-game unbeaten run in the Premier League come to a dramatic end at Goodison Park on Tuesday night.
Republic of Ireland defender Seamus Coleman cancelled out Alexis Sanchez’s deflected opener for summer signing Ashley Williams headed a late winner.
Arsenal are in third place and a point ahead of Pep Guardiola’s side in the title race as the chasing pack looking to keep in touch with leaders Chelsea.
However, former Liverpool defender Lawrenson believes Manchester City and Arsenal will play out a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
“Arsenal looked a little bit rocky dealing with set-pieces and crosses into the box during Tuesday’s defeat by Everton,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“That’s not to say City will try to do that against them, but it showed there are still ways of getting to the Gunners.
“City’s own defensive issues are well documented but they played with a four at the back against Watford and looked fairly comfortable for most of the game.
“Their next task is keeping out Arsenal’s attack, which will be a lot more difficult.”
Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League table last season and 10 points adrift of eventual champions Leicester City.
Manchester City ended up in fourth place in the table.
