Mark Lawrenson states prediction for Man City v Chelsea
The Liverpool legend is tipping Manchester City to end Chelsea's winning run
Mark Lawrenson is backing Manchester City to find a way to beat Chelsea at The Etihad on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues are the Premier League leaders after an impressive seven-game winning run since a 3-0 loss to Arsenal in north London in September.
The west London side have managed to beat Hull City, Leicester City, Manchester United, Everton, Southampton, Middlesbrough and Tottenham Hotspur in their last seven outings.
Chelsea have scored 19 times and have kept six clean sheets during that incredible Premier League run.
Pep Guardiola’s side have only managed to win three of their last seven Premier League fixtures but are only a point adrift of the leaders ahead of Saturday’s clash at The Etihad.
Former Liverpool defender Lawrenson believes the former Barcelona manager will concoct a master plan to unlock the Chelsea defence and secure three points.
“Chelsea’s form has taken them to the top of the table, but I am not sure they have played anyone as good as City during their seven-game winning run,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“I can see Chelsea scoring on Saturday but I just think City will get past them, somehow.
“Whatever the result, it will not define the title race or either side’s season, though.
“This is the start of an extremely busy period where teams play seven league matches in the next four weeks and I think all of the top teams will drop points somewhere because of the sheer volume and ferocity of the games.”
Chelsea have already lost to Arsenal and Liverpool in the Premier League title race before beating title rivals Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur during their impressive run.
