Man United legend Roy Keane makes claim about Tottenham’s top-four hopes
Roy Keane suggests that winning the Europa League could be Tottenham's best hope of sealing Champions League football next term
Roy Keane has suggested that winning the Europa League may represent Tottenham’s best hope of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
The Lilywhites were parachuted down into Europe’s second tier club competition last week after they finished third in their Champions League group.
Spurs are still very much in the race to finish in the top four in the Premier League this season, but the competition for Champions League places is bound to hot up as the campaign unfolds.
And former Manchester United midfielder Keane feels that winning the Europa League could represent Tottenham’s best hope of securing Champions League football for next season.
Speaking on ITV Sport, Keane said: “Realistically they weren’t going to win the Champions League.
“Obviously the big reward is if you can win it [the Europa League], then you’re back in the Champions League.
“Maybe that’s their best route of getting back into it.”
Tottenham finished third and without a trophy last season despite being Leicester City’s closest challengers for the title for much of the campaign.
The Lilywhites return to Premier League action with a home clash against Hull City in the top flight on Wednesday night.
