Paul Merson states prediction for Man United v Middlesbrough

The former Arsenal midfielder is confident Manchester United will notch up a five successive Premier League win

Paul Merson is backing Manchester United to ease to a 3-0 win against Middlesbrough at Old Trafford on New Year’s Eve.

The Red Devils have been in good form in recent weeks after a run of four successive Premier League victories ahead of the visit of Middlesbrough.

The 20-time English champions were 3-1 winners against Sunderland on Boxing Day thanks to goals from Daley Blind, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Manchester United have beaten Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace, West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland in their last four Premier League outings.

Mourinho’s men are in sixth place in the English top flight and four points adrift of fourth-placed Arsenal in the race to secure a Champions League spot.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Manchester United’s home clash against Middlesbrough on New Year’s Eve, Merson backed the Red Devils to secure a fifth consecutive Premier League victory.

“Paul Pogba looks a player, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been different class, and Jose Mourinho has found what he wanted with this team. I don’t see anything except a United win, they’re on a roll and I see that continuing,” Merson said.

Manchester United finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last term.
