Mark Lawrenson states prediction for Man United v Sunderland

The ex-Liverpool defender is backing Manchester United to beat Sunderland

Mark Lawrenson is confident Manchester United will ease to victory over Sunderland at Old Trafford on Boxing Day.

The Red Devils have been in impressive form in the Premier League in recent weeks after a run of three successive top-flight wins.

Manchester United started their run with a 1-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur before a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The Red Devils were 1-0 winners against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns last weekend after Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s first-half header.

Former Liverpool defender Lawrenson is backing the Manchester outfit to secure three points against the Black Cats at Old Trafford on Boxing Day.

“It is starting to look like Jose Mourinho not only knows what his best team is, more importantly he also knows how they are going to play,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.

“Using a 4-1-4-1 formation, United look well balanced and are creating lots of chances. They also have competition for places, and I am expecting them to extend their three-game winning run.”

Manchester United are in sixth place in the Premier League table and four points adrift of Arsenal, who are occupying the final Champions League spot.

The Red Devils are a staggering 13 points adrift of leaders Chelsea after 17 games following the west London side’s 11-game winning run.

The 20-time English champions signed four players in the summer transfer window.
