Mark Lawrenson states prediction for Man United v Tottenham
The Liverpool legend is backing Manchester United to draw with Tottenham Hotspur
Mark Lawrenson is tipping Manchester United to succumb to a fourth successive 1-1 stalemate in the Premier League when Tottenham Hotspur make the trip to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils have struggled to secure three points in recent weeks despite some promising performances in the Premier League after 1-1 draws with Arsenal, Everton and West Ham United.
Jose Mourinho’s side are already nine points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester City in the race to secure a place in next season’s Champions League, and Spurs are six points clear of Manchester United.
Tottenham have found some decent Premier League form since the return of Harry Kane from an ankle injury and the England striker scored in a 5-0 victory over Swansea City at White Hart Lane last weekend.
Former Liverpool defender Lawrenson can’t see Manchester United beating Tottenham at Old Trafford this weekend.
“I’m going for another 1-1 draw, which seems to be the most popular scoreline at Old Trafford at the moment,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“Tottenham are fifth going into the weekend, one place above United and to me they look more like breaking into the top four. They have more pace in their team and, at the moment, better players in key positions.”
Manchester United sacked Louis van Gaal after the Red Devils finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season behind Manchester City in fourth.
