Man United legend tells Jose Mourinho to sign France star in 2017 January transfer window
Peter Schmeichel admits he would love Manchester United to sign West Ham midfielder Dimitri Payet
Dimitri Payet would be a perfect signing for Manchester United in the 2017 January transfer window, according to club legend Peter Schmeichel.
The Red Devils have endured a tough start to life under Jose Mourinho after a run of two victories in their last 11 Premier League games ahead of the visit of Tottenham Hotspur.
West Ham United have struggled to replicate their impressive form in the 2015-16 season and Slaven Bilic’s side have only managed to secure one victory in their last six top-flight games.
Payet has still managed to score one goal and has made five assists in 12 Premier League appearances this season.
Former Manchester United goalkeeper Schmeichel has explained why he believes Payet would be an excellent addition to the Red Devils squad in the January transfer window.
“He’s a Manchester United-type player, for sure,” Schmeichel told Sky Sports’ Soccer AM show.
Schmeichel added: “But Payet? Definitely if he can find the form he showed during the Euros.”
Payet scored 12 times in 38 appearances in all competition in his first season in English football after swapping Marseille for West Ham in 2015.
Manchester United signed four players in the summer transfer window.
