Mark Lawrenson states prediction for Watford v Tottenham
The retired Irish defender is confident Tottenham Hotspur will continue their recent winning run
Mark Lawrenson is confident that Tottenham Hotspur will avoid an upset against Watford at Vicarage Road.
The north London side are in fifth place in the Premier League table after their 4-1 win against Southampton at St Mary’s on Wednesday night.
Goals from Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min overturned a 1-0 deficit to help Tottenham extend their winning run to three Premier League games.
Tottenham started the Premier League weekend in fifth place and a point behind fourth-placed Arsenal in the hunt for a Champions League qualifying spot.
The Lilywhites have beaten Swansea City, Burnley and Southampton in their last three Premier League games since a 1-0 loss at Manchester United earlier in December.
Former Liverpool and Republic of Ireland defender Lawrenson is tipping Tottenham to beat Watford in their Premier League clash at Vicarage Road on New Year’s Day.
“Even before Tottenham put four goals past Southampton I looked at Spurs and thought they have just got something about them at the moment,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“Watford, in contrast, looked ordinary in their draw with Crystal Palace. I don’t see them stopping Tottenham from making it four wins in a row.”
Watford drew 1-1 with Crystal Palace in their London derby at Vicarage Road on Boxing Day.
Tottenham finished in third place last season.
