Mark Lawrenson: This really impressed me about Antonio Conte after Chelsea win
Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson explains what really impressed him about Chelsea boss Antonio Conte last weekend
Mark Lawrenson has heaped praise on Antonio Conte ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League clash against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.
The Blues boss masterminded their superb 3-1 win against title rivals Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium last weekend thanks to goals from Diego Costa, Willian and Eden Hazard.
Chelsea extended their winning run to eight Premier League games thanks to their triumph at Manchester City and the west London side moved three points clear at the top of the table.
The Blues haven’t lost a Premier League fixture since 3-0 defeat by title rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in September.
Former Liverpool defender Lawrenson was impressed with Conte’s humility despite Chelsea’s significant victory over Pep Guardiola’s Citizens side in the title race.
“I was really impressed by what Chelsea boss Antonio Conte said after his side’s win over Manchester City because it will stop his players from getting carried away with winning eight in a row,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“Conte pointed out that if Sergio Aguero or Kevin de Bruyne had scored with good chances with the score at 1-0 then his players would have been going home empty-handed.”
Chelsea finished in tenth place in the Premier League table last season after struggling to defend their top-flight crown under Jose Mourinho and his interim successor Guus Hiddink.
Former Juventus boss Conte signed five new players in the summer transfer window.
