Martin Keown explains effect Liverpool’s win could have on title race
The Arsenal legend believes Liverpool's 1-0 win against Everton will be a timely boost for their confidence in the title race
Martin Keown believes Liverpool’s 1-0 win at Everton in the Merseyside derby will be good for their confidence in the Premier League title race.
Sadio Mane scored a winner in the fourth minute of added time to seal three points for Jurgen Klopp’s men in dramatic circumstances at Goodison Park.
Liverpool are in second place in the Premier League table and six points behind leaders Chelsea after 17 games in the current campaign.
The 18-time English champions have only lost to Bournemouth and Burnley in the Premier League this season.
Klopp’s side will host Stoke City at Anfield in the Premier League on Boxing Day as Liverpool look to record their third successive top-flight victory.
Speaking to The Daily Mail, former Arsenal defender Keown discussed the impact that Liverpool’s derby win could have on the Merseyside outfit’s season.
“It is really good for their confidence. They had a rocky ride in the first 20 minutes where they weren’t in the game. Jurgen Klopp did not look happy at all,” Keown told The Daily Mail.
“He will have been worried with how they were not competing in the first half but will have been pleased that he got his message across in the second.”
Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table last season after Klopp was appointed as the new Reds manager back in October 2015.
