Martin Keown makes Arsenal transfer prediction

Martin Keown is expecting to see Olivier Giroud be offered a new contract at Arsenal beyond 2018

Martin Keown believes that Arsenal are likely to hand Olivier Giroud a new contract to stay at The Emirates beyond the summer of 2018.

The Arsenal striker’s current deal is set to expire at the end of next season and it remains to be seen whether the forward will be handed a new contract.

Giroud has been limited to just one Premier League start this season but has made a further 10 appearances from the bench for Arsene Wenger’s men this term.

Despite his limited game-time, Giroud has scored six goals and made one assist in all competitions for the north London side heading into this weekend’s round of fixtures in the Premier League.

And former Arsenal defender Keown is confident that Giroud will be handed a new deal by the Gunners in the coming months.

Writing in his column for The Daily Mail, Keown said: “Arsene Wenger will undoubtedly offer him a new deal.

“I don’t think Giroud will be Arsenal’s number one striker again but that doesn’t mean he is not still very important to the team. It is a question of whether the player is happy to accept that.

“His goals this season underline that he is trying to prove that he can be their main man.”

Giroud will be hoping to feature when Arsenal take on Crystal Palace at The Emirates on Sunday.
