The north London side headed into the game looking to return to winning ways after the disappointment of their 2-1 loss to Everton last week.

Arsenal took the lead through Theo Walcott in the first half but were pegged back after the break when goals from Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling condemned the north London side to another defeat.

The Gunners had only been three points behind Chelsea earlier this month but now trail the Premier League leaders by nine points heading into the hectic festive period in the top flight.

And Chelsea legend Ballack could not help but aim a dig Arsenal’s way after their second-half performance against City.

Ballack tweeted:

Arsenal must now dust themselves down as they prepare for their Boxing Day clash against West Brom at The Emirates.
